Due to lack on interest of public to these websites and also change of direction in beyond ng we decided to stop these services and focus on our hhtimesheet product. We had these sites running for more than six month and there was only few posts on the website. We want to focus on our main product which will be hhtimesheet.

There has been different numbers about the actual number of iPhone apps downloaded from internet. There is one thing is common between all of these numbers: Unlike previous mobile platforms people are actually downloading programs from iPhone app store. Last time I checked there was about 500 apps in the store and most of them are games. Putting an iPhone app in the iPhone app store means that millions of people will see your application (if it is free you should expect some of them download your application too). It provides a great opportunity for websites like http://www.fastgaragesales.com. What we do in fast garage sales is giving the list of garage sales in a range of locations. Internal GPS in iPhone will make it a great choice for this purpose. You will run the application and view all the garage sales in you area. The most appealling part of iPhone in this context is the size of its app store. There are not many applications inside the iPhone app store and writing one application requires knowledge of Cooca, objective C, iPhone SDK and having an Apple computer and paying $100 fee to apple. So I don’t think the market will grow dramatically any time soon. Writing an application for your website will put your website in frond of eyes of millions of iPhone users with very small amount of investment. So I think currently writing an iPhone app store is a better marketing strategy than paying for google ad words.

There are plenty of websites, each requires separate login and registration. If you are like me, you are probably already confused and cannot remember all the user names and accounts on different websites</p>
Mypazzwords is the solution to your problem. You create on account with a master password to store and retrieve all of your passwords.

I finished the http://www.fastgaragesales.com website. You can start posting your garage sales and enjoy this website. Thanks to google free geocoding and productivity of rails I was able to provide this service in less than a month. The total development time was about two weeks (full time). I am already thinking about two next projects that I am going to work on. I created the story board for one of them in side the mingle.. I will talk about that project later on. It is about brining an old game that I used to play with my friends in high school into online word. I will keep you posted and thanks for reading this weblog.

So worked for other companies for a while, you have some ideas and you want to start your own business as an entrepreneur. Here are some tips that I aggregated from reading different sites and blogs and also from my own experience.
Is it a good time?
The first question that you should ask yourself is that is it a good time? We are living in an integrated market environment. To be successful, you should have the right idea at the right time. Read the Xerox story, they had the greatest ideas but the timing was not right. So you should make sure that market is ready to use your product. As an entrepreneur with probably low cash follow you don’t have the luxury of investing in something that market is not ready for it yet.
Don’t quit your job yet.
It is very important to keep your current job. You may feel that your job is taking a lot of your time and you will be more successful by dedicating your whole time to build your own start up business but there is always risk involved in starting a new business so don’t quit your job unless you are sure that your business will pay your bills. You can start by going to part time job and cutting your living cost (quite somking, cheaper internet and mobile deals, etc) but DON’T QUITE YOUR JOB!
It is a great time for starting a web 2.0 company
Starting a company used to be very expensive. You had to invest a lot of money on infra-structure. It is not the case anymore. you can have :
- $20 per month dedicated system from http://www.slicehost.com/. Which will be enough to serve more than 1000 unique visitors per day (depends on how calculation heavy your system is)
- You don’t need to pay for softwares that you are using. Application servers, database servers, development environment are all available for free. You can build your application on top of Apache, tomcat, MySQL, php, ruby, perl , etc without paying any money for software’s license.
- Broadband Internet is available every where so you will have huge potential customers all around the world.
- Advertising is cheap. Google AdWords are great way for advertising your business and it is cheap you don’t need to pay fortune for your campaign anymore. Only few hundered dollars per month.
- Software frameworks are becoming more mature and productive. Things that used to take years are now can be done in few month. If you are using ruby on rails, php or Java there are many open-source high quality frameworks that are doing 80% of the job and you can focus on writing your own application.
The only thing that you need is a good idea and enough time and knowledge to convert your idea into a product.
SEO is important
From the very first day of your business you should ensure that you are following the SEO guidelines in your site. Many people will find you through search engines and you should make sure that your website appears in the first page of Google search. It will not happen overnight but if you optimise your site and build a strategy around SEO you should be able to achieve that in six months. Use Google suggestions (http://www.google.com/webhp?complete=1&hl=en) to find out what are the key terms that users are search for and try to optimise your site for those queries.
For example when I was writing the requirements for http://www.fastgaragesales.com, I found out that these are the terms that people are using:
- garage sales houston
- garage sales in melbourne
- garage sales in houston
- garage sales australia
- garage sales canberra
- garage sales los angeles
So I am going to have a dedicated page for garage sales in each section of the world. So I will have a URL like http://www.fastgaragesales.com/locations/houston with title of garage sales in Houston. This will help to get to the first page for search for garage sales in Houston which according to Google has been searched more than one million times.
I will post more about my experience of building a web 2.0 start up company.
All your comments will be appreciated.

I am looking for business ideas. For weeks ago a friend of mine moved to new apartment in Neural bay/Sydney. She said we want to buy a second hand T.V and she is looking for garage sales ads in the street. The first thing that came into my mind was that why she is not using Internet to find the garage sales advertised in her area. There should be some sites for that. So I came home and started to look into the sites that are advertising the garage sales. The first thing that I found out that although there are some sites for that but none of them is mature enough. So the market is actually so immature. There are several reasons for that:
- There are very few sites exclusively dedicated to garage sales. most of the garage sale sites are generic ad posting sites which has a section for garage sales.
- The garage sale ads are very generic and do not provide fine grain detail about the garage sale. For example I want to search for a garage sale that sell Plasma TV or Toaster.
- No image capability for these sites.
Of course there are other reasons on top of that, like technology savvy people prefer to sell through eBay than garage sale. But I still think there is a market for such product. That is the reason that I am going to announce the development of first product from beyond NG. The product is called fast garage sales. I registered the domain on http://www.fastgaragesales.com and I officially started the development last week. I am using ruby on rails. I fairly new to this language. I will try to post my experience with rails in this blog.
Fast garage sale will be an easy to use garage sale post and search site. I will integrate the google map inside this application.
I am working full time as a Java Team Lead at News Digital Limited and don’t have much time. I hope, I will be able to finish it in 2 to 3 month.
Wish me luck
I will keep you posted.

Who we are
The reason that I started Beyond NG is that I felt there is a big demand for online services for small to medium size companies. These companies do not have the luxury of buying and maitainning hi-end software products. Moreover they don’t need many features that exist in these products. Working as a contractor in Australia for few years I realise that we need software simple online solution targeted at small to medium size companies. At the moment I am looking for business partners around the world to help me with writing program. If you are interested contact me at my gmail account which is beyondng or send email to admin account on beyondng.com.
